Agamograph Adult Craft
Thursday, February 06, 2020, 06:30pm - 08:30pm

The Springfield Free Public Library will offer hold a hands on workshop from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM on February 6, at which participants will make their own two-sided agamograph to bring home and display.

An agamograph is a type of kinetic art that, when viewed from different angles, reveals a different image; Agamogaphs are named for Yakkov Agam, the Israeli artist who pioneered this technique.

Participants in this workshop will need to bring two pictures of equal size. These pictures can be photographs, pictures taken from a magazine, drawings, or other images that can be cut into strips as required for the agamograph process. Aside from the pictures that each participant brings with them to the workshop, all other supplies will be provided by the library.

Some suggestions for agamograph projects include abstract designs of strikingly different colors, photos of the same person at different ages, pictures of siblings, photographs from nature, or anything else that the participant wishes to juxtapose.

The class will be facilitated by retired art teacher Barbara Miller. It is is free and open to all adult members of the public as well as to teenagers who are of high school age. Because space is limited, preference will be given to Springfield residents, and advance registration is required. Registration can be done in person at the library’s reference desk or by calling 973 376-4930, ext. 229 during regular library hours.

It is important that participants understand that any personal photographs that they bring are going to need to be cut into strips as part of the agamograph process.
